Caravanserai Herbal Chai

$7.00$18.00

The Caravanserai were a series of roadside inns that welcomed weary traders traveling the Silk Road, the historical over-land trade path across Asia, North Africa, and Southeast Europe. This truly remarkable chai pays homage to the hospitality of these legendary stopping points, where travelers from all over the known world mingled and rested. It features a stunning blend of dried fruits, flowers, and spices in strikingly large pieces, set against a blend of Indian estate-grown black teas. In addition to the cloves, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, black and white pepper, and nutmeg that are common to many chai teas, it also is laden with apple, hibiscus, rosehip, whole orange pieces, lemongrass root, and star anise.  It doesn’t pack the same punch as our Spicy Chai Darjeeling, but instead has a complex, almost otherworldly quality, suitable to its storied origins. We recommend brewing it in a glass teapot with a steeping chamber, so that you have enough to share, and so all can admire its striking beauty in the pot.

Description

The Caravanserai were a series of roadside inns that welcomed weary traders traveling the ancient Silk Road, the historical over-land trade path across Asia, North Africa, and Southeast Europe. This truly remarkable chai pays homage to the hospitality of these legendary stopping points, where travelers from all over the known world mingled, traded, and rested. It features a stunning blend of dried fruits, flowers, and spices in strikingly large pieces — too big for a single cup*, but perfect for slow-steeping a pot to be shared. In addition to the cloves, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, black and white pepper, and nutmeg that are common to many chai teas, it also is laden with apple, hibiscus, rosehip, whole orange pieces, lemongrass root, and star anise.  It doesn’t pack the same punch as our Spicy Winter Chai, but instead has a complex, almost otherworldly quality, suitable to its storied origins. We recommend brewing it in a glass teapot with a steeping chamber, so that you have enough to share, and so all can admire its striking beauty in the pot. Alternately, give it a 1-2 second grind in a spice grinder or use a mortar and pestle.  A tea to be savored, shared and contemplated.

*If you want a blend suitable for solo sipping, try our Caravanserai Chai Rooibos, or give this a quick grind in the spice grinder.
