In ancient Greece, Hestia was the goddess of the hearth and of all the warmth and coziness thereof. This tea is every bit as warm and cozy as its namesake, laden with cinnamon sticks and freshly zested oranges, all layered atop a bold, coppery TGFOP Assam black tea from the excellent Bukhail Estate to make a cup that tastes of hearth and home.

Description

In ancient Greece, Hestia was the goddess of the hearth and of all the warmth and coziness thereof. This tea is every bit as warm and cozy as its namesake, laden with cinnamon sticks and freshly zested oranges, all layered atop a bold, coppery TGFOP Assam black tea from the excellent Bukhail Estate to make a cup that tastes of hearth and home.

The bold, coppery Assam-style black tea (TGFOP) comes from Bukhail Tea Estate in the state of Assam, where wild elephants still roam the estate! Millenia of loamy river sediments in the soil creates an outstanding terroir, and the limited rainfall of the area concentrates flavor in the tea leaf. We pair this gorgeous tea with big pieces of crushed cinnamon bark and freshly zested orange peels, which compliments the flavor of the tea perfectly.

This tea reminds me of a sophisticated Constant Comment! My favorite black teas are earl greys, and I usually prefer Ceylon, but the earthiness of Assam adds a good depth to the brightness(?) (astringency) of the orange. The cinnamon isn’t overwhelming, but again adds a nice depth. I was worried it would be too Christmasy (although I do love Christmas tea), but it’s a great everyday drink.
